As someone who makes a living photographing people I still have to remind myself to pull out a camera on my downtime. When my oldest child turned 12 I knew it was time to schedule a portrait session.

Oddly enough I have found that even through I am with my children and do photograph many of their daily activities I still need to schedule time to get those all important portraits. For me portraits go beyond the everyday snapshot and I need to give my own children the time and presents when photographing them that I do my paying customers.

So like I try to do with my other portrait subjects we picked an early evening when the sun was just right, also know as the golden hour.” I spent some time looking thorough wardrobes finding the right location and then took all the time needed to capture this boy I adore. I look at these portraits and can see so much of the little boy that is and the young man that he is becoming.

Like many people I must remind myself to use my talent for the benefit of those I love.
