As a trained photojournalist I still feel that little thrill when I’m asked to photograph something “real.” I’ve increasingly found myself as a photojournalist thrown into situations that are somewhat contrived. Press conferences and check passing rarely inspire. So whenever I get a chance to cover a story with people really doing something not just for the camera I am thrilled. So when the opportunity to photograph the local Roller Derby team came I jumped. The story was about the second aniversay of the Jewel City Rollergirls. Here are a few of my favorites.
