As we hit the heat of Summer I’m looking forward to a unique opportunity. I will be a featured artist at the small seaside “Port Clyde Gallery.” Over the years Huppers Island just off of Port Clyde has been a family escape. I’ve taken many photos of this gorgeous place and am honored to be able to share some. 2014-06-20_0004

PRESS RELEASE:

Through more than 40 summers on Huppers Island, photographer Toril Lavender has garnered a keen eye for the simple beauty of Maine’s rugged coastline. She is the granddaughter of Norwegian boat builder Ole Amundsen and his wife Tina, who came to Maine in the 1960s because it reminded them of their homeland. On Huppers Island, Ole built a small cottage, which four generations of Amundsens still visit each summer, migrating from as far away as California to the family home where the Norwegian and American flags fly proudly. An award winning photojournalist and daughter of scientists, Toril captures natural history from a unique perspective, showcasing the fall of shadows, the delicate moss and rocks most just step over. She will be sharing some of her Maine images at the Port Clyde Art Gallery from July 9 to July 28. The beautiful photographs are printed on metal, a medium that can make images leap from the wall with a vibrant simplicity.  Please join Toril and her family, fresh from road-tripping all the way from West Virginia, at an opening reception at 5 p.m. Friday, July 11.
